I really regret not taking one of his tours or asking him questions. Despite his big floppy hat and colorful dress he seemed to have an aggressive demeanor that I found intimidating and no doubt scared quite a few tourists. I had always heard he was the best and I'm sure as a knowledgeable NYCer you could appreciate his work much much more than one of the TV show tourists. What a loss.
